HOWARD B. PARZOW, AUCTIONEER

IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE...

ITEMS FROM THE ESTATE OF THE LATE WAYNE AND PATRICIA GUYTON
FORMER RESIDENTS OF THE HISTORIC BURKETT HOUSE IN BURKITTSVILLE, MD
***1810 Henry Burkett bought part of the "Merryland Tract" that had been granted to the family of Gov. Thomas S. Lee.
In 1829, Henry Burkett commissioned a survey of his land an platted what was to become the town that bears his name today.
From then until the Civil War, the village flourished, with many of the trades of the times being housed in the structures that were built.
On Sept. 13 & 14, 1862, Burkittsville became closely involved with the Civil War, where both Union and Confederate Army's engaged in the
Battle of Crampton's Gap, a bloody prelude to the Battle of Antietam.  The Burkett House at 103 East Main Street was built in 1807.
It is a rectangular 2 1/2 story, 6 bay federal style structure made of brick covered with painted stucco and a gable metal roof.
A spectacular walnut corner cupboard (which is in the Oct. 20th auction) was built and signed by Henry Burkett
and placed in the living quarters of the house, where he also resided.***

(This historic home situated on 246 acres has been lovingly taken care of for more than 200 years.
This property will soon be offered for sale. Parzow Auctions is proud to have been chosen to sell the antique contents of this truly remarkable and historic estate.)
